Grovelands Park is where Stevie Smith played as a child, here she imagined the jungles and lakes that appear in her poems. Grovelands house was then a convalescent home for wounded soldiers, some of whom used to visit their houd. They spoke little of the war, but Stevie imagined scenes as the Dark Tower by RobertBrowning. The house and street where  she lived and the Church where she learned t sing hymns as a child are all incorporated in her writing. The station is proablaby unchanged since the days when she set off each day for London.
